Subject: Members request it is time to close CMI, cease CPD as a cash grab, hold public meetings with members, put CSIC transparency ino meaningful action
Dear Members of the Board, Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants:
Your recent announcement that you are now going to charge members to be a part of CMI is completely unacceptable. CMI was never the members idea, and for your board to come up with a money-losing venture (according to last year’s reported losses of over $1million) it has become transparent that there is nothing free at CMI. Your menu of the value to members does not persuade. Ask the members in a public meeting if they wish this to continue. You will be told the unvarnished, unpolled truth of the members wishes: close CMI. There is more than a perceived conflict of interest in its creation, and the cost of running remains a mystery to all.
How you have gone about reducing the Law Society of Upper Canada’s annual Immigration Law Summit’s value for CPD voluntary points is also a transparent sham. This is disgraceful. The even went from 15 points a day, down to 10 points a day, to 8 points a day, but only if you sat a quiz online. What happened here? Has Mendel and Steven Green, Lorne Waldman, Cecil Rotenberg, Barbara Jackman and co. lost their edge, and in their senior years delivering less value? Why do we buy their books then?
Your banning of Camilla Jones and Lynn Gaudet’s Immigration Practitioners Handbook is also transparent. The book is a best seller with law firms, but because they disagree with your governance, you have given every appearance you are punishing them.
Paying to have a non-CMI event audited and then awarded meager CPD points has a twofold purpose: it frustrates the members, you earn revenue from each member individually for asking for recognition of valuable outside education, and you then promote CMI offerings prejudicially. We pay at both ends this way.
Stripping CAPIC of their CPD provider status could not be more transparent in having the members perceive that the real reason is to further the monopoly for CMI, your for-profit twin sister organization. This should have been brought to an independent arbitration panel to remedy years ago.
You have forced members to purchase often outdated material, much of which is available for free or at a much cheaper cost from other sources. Forcing mandatory CPD on the members has become a cash-grab for CSIC. This should not be, it has to stop now.
The members are constantly being told the results of polls, and slick video productions, that nothing is wrong with our regulatory body. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
I invite this entire board to step out from behind the locked doors of CSIC’s MunichRe offices, and face the members in a true public town-hall meeting. No RCMP walking around in uniform with guns like at the conferences to intimidate, no cameras pointing from the sides to record dissenting voices to target later on.
Stop playing the game that you know best how to spend our $29,000,000 investment.
Stop spending our money on lawsuits, lawyers and lobbyists to protect yourselves and your positions as overpaid career regulators. The reign of entitlement is over.
Fire the spin-doctors and in-house counsel. They make you look mean-spirited.
Stop distributing dissembled half-truth press releases and tightly controlled misleading question poll results that claim to set the record straight, dispel rumors with just the facts. They are a tragic farce, an unpersuasive insult to any intelligent human being.
Stop persecuting members via Complaints and Discipline for disagreeing with you. The hardship and cruelty you have forced down on the membership is staggering in human costs.
Stop hiring world-renowned humanist crusader speakers like Ralph Nader and Stephen Lewis to lend the veneer of humanity and compassion when everything you do goes counterintuitive to their ethos. No one is fooled.
You are on the wrong path, and have been all along.
It is time to come out from your lair. Stop hiding. Wake up.
Face us, your members, in a public forum, in physical space.
Respectfully submitted, david
