Subject: ON BEING BLACKMAILED
Forget, Forgive and Maybe Forever
It is very painful for me to have to reply to the blackmail that I am being threatened with as the result of my posting "These Boots were made for walking…." However, I have no choice. I want to assure Members that I have sought Professional and Legal advice over this matter and a determination was made that it would better that I come forward with the contents of the threats than comply with any alternative.
My wife and I had returned from dinner on Friday evening, May 28th, 2010 at approximately 7:00 P.M., when a telephone call was made which I took to be a crank call and hung up. The speaker advised me that he was aware I had recently acquired a Black Mercedes, that they knew where it was parked and that I should not turn the ignition on. I did not recognize the voice on the phone and hung up.
I opened up my business e-mail sometime thereafter and received a message through the services of CSIC. I then realized I should take this threat seriously because the e-mail was threatening me with the release of a June 22, 1989 "disposition", made some twenty five years ago that is allegedly to be found on the Law Society of Upper Canada's website. It is not.
However, the "disposition" spoken about does exist and, if I understand it correctly, is a report filed by the famous and renowned forensic Physiatrist, Dr. Peter Rosell. Dr.Rosell had been retained by The Law Society to investigate whether actions taken by me at a very young age resulted from a Medical Condition, which today is referred to as Anti-polar Affective Disorder, and whether or not I was responsible for actions taken by me at that time. The conclusion was that I was not guilty of anything in law, and given proper medication the likelihood of recurrence was minimal. In fact, history proved him right.
I must state, for the record, that on June 22. 1989, two events did happen. My wife's mother died tragically and I resigned from the Law Society. I was not disbarred but I felt it was best to insure that nothing in the future similar to this would occur. It did not and has not. I have never had a criminal record and to be very precise, never needed to ask for a Pardon nor received one. I have and remain a Member in Good Standing of The Canadian Bar Association.
These were very painful days for my family. Most in particular, for my wife Maria, who stood by me and insured that I was properly treated. My children were never made aware of my illness. Today, I have a son of whom I am very proud and who is a successful businessman in Toronto, and a daughter who has made her mark on this world, at the young age of 28, in the world of Politics.
The four of us are all graduates of McGill University in Montreal, with my wife and daughter having obtained certificates from the Sorbonne University in Paris. My children are caring members of Society and I am very proud of them. Had I not made a full recovery, so many years ago, none of this would have been possible.
I will now address the "disposition" which I was threatened with and warned that unless I retracted the serious allegations in my article entitled Nigel Thompson, Still under the Spell my medical records would be released. Incidentally, such an act would be contrary to my Human Rights, my dignity, and in violation of the Laws of the Land.
The e-mail I received is copied below:"A visitor at http://www.csic-scci.ca/ asked us

This is a friendly message although you may not appreciate it as such.
From time to time in life one could knowingly or unknowingly have acted inappropriately to the extent of causing harm to other people. One may regret for having done so afterward, yet one may not have the courage to offer a deserving apology to those that have been harm.
If you have previously made open statements and caused harm to other individuals, please consider offering them an apology, and take back the words that had been spread out by you.To live a happy life requires one to forget and forgive things at times. The writer wants to live a happy life as well, and it will forget and forgive the June 22, 1989 disposition as if it had never existed.
A friend"
The e-mail was sent on Friday night from and through the CSIC Website, on May 28th at 5:02 P.M.
Later on that Friday night I wrote to the Chairman of the Board, Nigel Thomson, and to all The Members of the Board advising them of the situation that I found myself in. After careful consideration, and seeking Counsel, I requested that the Server at CSIC be preserved and secured in the event that some Police Authority or other interested Law enforcement authority, or indeed myself, wished to determine the origin of the e-mail.
Interestingly enough, the Chairman of the Board, Nigel Thomson, was kind enough to reply to my article "Nigel Thompson, Still under the spell" To my dismay, no interest was shown to the content of the e-mail.
His e-mail read as follows:

Nigel Thomson
An investigation was commenced on Saturday morning by parties informed in the technicalities of the tracing of e-mails. It is fascinating to know what types of information can be obtained and what type of a "ruse" was used to send this e-mail to me. I leave it to others to conclude what they may.
There will be NO denying the allegations I that have made. In fact, many more continue to pour in from around the country that further corroborates the sources.
For example, the nanny story played a role two months ago at the Mandatory Conference in Montreal when a Public Director was confronted and questioned whether or not he knew that the Nanny was a paid employee of CSIC. The Public Director had stated that he would certainly investigate this. What transpired is not known. Independently, I learned today that the wife of the Public Director was the paid organizer of the Montreal event. How the wheel spins and how the spokes travel outwards to grasp the silence of those who were meant to protect us.
It is not without a deep sense of emptiness that I write this. What could have been and what will be is so vastly different than I, and I am sure, so many Members, dreamed CSIC would be.
Many years ago, in one of my published books of poetry, I wrote a poem entitled Silence is my heart. The poem ends as follows:
"Silence is my heart
And my heart was love;
What gifts I had
I dreamed to share;
Yet
What hope I had
Just isn't there."
It is strange that those words taken from that poem, written so long ago, come back to haunt me on this early morning on the last day of May, 2010.
