Nigel Thompson, Still under the Spell

Nigel Thompson, Still under the Spell

May 27, 2010

It is hard to know from the Press release, issued by CSIC today, whether it is the Board of CSIC, through their spokesman, Nigel Thompson, or John Ryan who intends to sue the NATIONAL POST. Let the battle begin!

I am sure that The National Post has checked its sources in more ways than either Mr. Thompson or Mr. Ryan would care to know about.

I am privy to a very confidential 2004 Report that was severely critical of the governance of CSIC. John Ryan had this in his hands and never sent it to the Minister of Immigration, Minister Volpe, which he then was. This report should have been sent to Minister Volpe, since we were loaned money from the public purse and were accountable to CIC. The report was never sent to Ottawa because of what it advised Mr. Ryan to do and which Mr. Ryan did not want to comply with.

I am sure The National Post will investigate this 2004 Report. The Author was the famous Dr. Bart who went on to award John Ryan the Gold Medal in Governance. The Report, which either The National Post will release, or I will, is critical of the governance of CSIC and of John Ryan.

Dr. Bart was persona non grata at CSIC for sometime thereafter. However, the Chairman of CSIC, John Ryan, uses his traditional methods to induce those who oppose him with the promises of the gift of money, all monies that belong to the Members who pay their fees. The inducement we know about was the huge fees paid in 2009 to Dr. Bart for his participation in the Vision of CSIC at Banff, Alberta.

We do not know the full story yet of Dr. Bart. We do know that Dr. Bart was paid a substantial amount of money by CSIC while Mr. Ryan was trying to obtain his special designation, which would prove he was now able to govern CSIC. Dr. Bart should be ashamed if what he wrote in 2004 was true. Nothing changed in the governance of CSIC and yet the very man who was paid a fortune to tell Mr. Ryan he was wrong, suddenly saw the glimmer of wild roses stirring in the summer sunshine glazed with green and gold medals.

The very idea that Barbara McKay of the National Post, as Nigel Thompson states, “decided she would rather grab the public’s attention with eye-catching headlines than pursue the truth” tells the story of how Mr. Ryan still dictates or influences a man that I always thought to be decent and fair. Nigel, smell the roses and you will find that they have withered and died on the vine.

Mr. Thompson is an honourable and kind man but he is misinformed of the facts that swirl around him because he listens to those who have benefited from sucking out of CSIC everything they could. One only has to be reminded of the former Vice-Chairman of CSIC, Mr. Imran Qayyum.

Mr. Vice Chair had nothing behind his name to show he was anyone accomplished. However go to the CMI website and you will find he is now known as Imran Qayyum, CCIC, FCMI, IC.D, and C. Dir. ASC.

These designations came on the dime of hard working consultants who have families and need to feed them. Mr. Qayyum should give back the fortune he has caused the Profession to spend on him in order to confer upon him a sense of superiority and fame .Mr. Qayyum should refrain from using these designations unless he repays the Profession.

Mr. Ryan, according to Mr. Thompson, will sue The National Post. Who will pay for the lawsuit? Will the same people who paid for his lavish apartment in Toronto pay? Will the same people who paid to have an employee flown out West to look after his children pay? Will the same people who paid for the thousands of dollars of equipment that is in Mr. Ryan’s home in British Columbia pay? Will the same people who paid for Mr. Ryan’s Canadian Flight pass enabling him to fly anywhere in Canada pay? Who collected and used the travel points to places such as Greece and other far away paces? Who paid for all the training and massive expenses that Mr. Ryan incurred to obtain his “Gold Medal’? Who paid for Mr. Ryan’s junkets to China? Australia? The junkets to England and Korea? Others junkets are coming to light. Who paid for the fact Mr. Ryan, on our dime, met client’s on his international travel and pocketed the money claiming it was his “private business income”? Who double-dipped by collecting as a Board Member, a Chairman, a head of many Committee’s, and now as Acting CEO? Who was paid to develop a course for CMI? Who was paid as a Board Member for CMI? Who paid for the unlimited expense account on credit cards? Who paid for the shirts and shoes taken from the petty cash purchased for Mr. Ryan? Who paid for the lavish and unnecessary Restaurant charges that included wine worth over one hundred dollars a bottle in after an educational program?

Will now the Board of Directors name Mr. Ryan CEO with a provision that if he resigns or is fired he will have a life-time pension or some other hefty settlement?

Surely Mr. Thompson has not become a man without integrity. Surely he will ask Mr. Ryan whether there is any truth in these allegations. Surely the Board of Directors can verify the statements contained herein by simply doing a forensic accounting.

Mr. Thompson ran for the election to CSIC stating that he would take no salary. I take he believed that none was deserved. I take him at his word and will accept the fact he has taken no salary, unless proven otherwise.

It is an overwhelming tragedy that has befallen this Profession. It is a circus in full flight and a story that, as it unfolds, the average and decent Canadian will fail to understand.

I would like a forensic accounting of the years gone by and I will settle for nothing less. Mr. Thompson, on Mr. Ryan’s instructions, may add me to their lawsuit with The National Post. I have grown tired and aged since the night when Mr. Ryan attempted to involve me in what I perceived to be a criminal conspiracy to remove the President of CAPIC from power and turn CAPIC into the farce that is today’s CMI. I am prepared to be revoked by the powers that be but I will leave knowing that I have done my duty to a Profession I love and I will put whatever resources I have of mine, or my family’s, to insure that the facts I write about are true. There are many more detrimental facts that I have chosen not to disclose at this time.

Nigel, for the love of the Profession, for the love of your Country and your own integrity, put an end to this charade before it puts an end to you and all of us.
